Lela Mae Bevel of Stamford passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022, in the Stonewall County Hospital, two days before her eighty-fifth birthday. The family invited family and friends to visitation at the funeral home, Monday, January 17 from 6 to 7 pm at Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home in Stamford. Services were held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 18 at Orient Street Church of Christ with Wes Horn officiating. Burial followed in Willow Cemetery in Haskell. Arrangements by Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home Lela was born in Brownwood, January 17, 1937, the oldest of four daughters of Berl and Lela Naomi (Sansing) Clark. She married James Henry Bevel in Corpus Christi on January 27, 1956. They lived and raised their family in La Pryor before moving to Haskell in 1982. She is survived by sons, Berl and wife, Dana, of Roanes Prairie, Brad and wife, Joy, of Stamford, son-in-law, Allen Reed Jr. and wife, Rosie, of Hondo; grandchildren, Kristi Reed Sax of San Antonio, Janel Hendricks and husband, Brad, of Arlington, and First Sergeant Anthony Reed of Incirlik Air Force Base, Turkey, Kolton and wife, Allison, of Lafayette, LA, Kason and wife, Sierra, of Santo, Kamryn of Roanes Prairie, Peyton and Tylee Jo of Stamford; great-grandchildren Katelyn Sax, Ryker Hendricks, James and Shane, several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Bevel; daughter, Joy Reed; her parents, and sisters Linda Riebschlaeger, Lee Campbell, and Kathy Farar. As a preacher’s daughter, Lela could play countless hymns on the piano, and often entertained her friends at Country Elegance. With her ever-present camera, she delighted in taking pictures of any and every one, but especially her grandchildren and their friends, who all knew her as “Granny B.” Serving as pallbearers are grandsons, Kolton and Kason Bevel; grandson-in-law, Brad Hendricks; Don Cobb, Mike Holt, and Rick Kittley. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Country Elegance Assisted Living Center for their care and support of Lela these past few years.
