Norma Jean Lehrmann
April 10, 2025

Norma Jean Spitzer Lehrmann died peacefully on February 12, 2025. Norma, the beloved only child of Adeline and Louis Spitzer, was born in Old Glory, Texas on May 5, 1932.
Adeline and Louis had limited formal schooling, so they encouraged Norma to focus on her studies. From an early age, Norma excelled in school, both academically and extracurricularly. While in high school in Old Glory, Norma met her future husband, Melvin Lehrmann of Sagerton. After several years of dating, Melvin finally worked up the courage to ask for her hand in marriage; they had two sons, Larry Dale and Gregory Alan.
Upon graduation from Old Glory High School, where she graduated Valedictorian, Norma attended North Texas University in Denton, receiving her degree in Education. Melvin attended Tarlton State University where he received his degree in Architecture. After completing their undergraduate studies, Norma and Melvin settled in Fort Worth, Texas, where Norma taught elementary school. She taught in the classroom for many years, and went on to receive her Master's Degree; her excellence was recognized when she was promoted to serve in the administration of the Fort Worth Independent School District. Norma loved her students, and they embraced her sensitive and compassionate teaching style.
Norma always maintained close ties with her family in Old Glory, while also developing a deep love of Fort Worth. Sadly, Melvin passed away far too young, when Larry was 11 and Greg was 6. Four years later, Norma married Don Clayton, a Fort Worth police officer, who had two beautiful daughters, Sherry (age 10) and Sharon (age 2). The two families became one as all four children lived with Norma and Don in Richland Hills. Norma adopted Don's daughters as her own, always providing them with loving care and tenderness. In her later years, she was married to Dale Talley, whom she spent many happy years with; they both enjoyed fishing, camping, fish frying, dancing, and hanging out with dear friends. Norma was protective and loyal to those she cared for, be it her children and grandchildren, her extended family, her students, her friends, or her pets.
After Norma became a grandmother, she reveled in her time with her grandkids, inviting them over for numerous sleepovers, creating craft projects and cooking copious amounts of food for them. Almost weekly, she drove them across town from Colleyville to West Fort Worth so they could enjoy the zoo and museums. Despite her distinguished career as a teacher and administrator, Norma's most treasured roles were as mother and mentor for her four children, and as beloved Grandmommy to her grandchildren. Her happiest times were spent at home, laughing with her family, both in Fort Worth and in Old Glory.
Norma lived a full and blessed life, and will be missed by many. She is survived by her children, Larry Lehrmann (Kathy), Greg Lehrmann (Debbie), Sherry Scott (Randy), Sharon Clayton (Lynn); her grandchildren, Sarah (Ben), Gregory, Lisa, and Jonathan (Sarah) and her 18 amazing great grandchildren.
Visitation will be in Richland Hills on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church of Hurst, 521 W. Pipeline Road, Hurst TX 76053 followed by a memorial service. Lunch will be provided following the service at Norma's home, located at 3608 Granada Drive, Richland Hills, TX 76118.
Memorials may be made to the paper she so enjoyed reading every week, The Stamford American, 7538 U S HWY 277 N, Stamford, Texas 79553.
