Robert Bird, December 20, 1937 - November 18, 2023

Robert Ray Bird Sr. , 85, of Stamford passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023 in an Abilene Hospital. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at St. John’s Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Wright and Jack and Ryli McKay officiating. Burial followed in the Willow Cemetery in Haskell, Texas under the direction of Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home. Robert was born December 20, 1937 in Haskell, Texas. He is the son of the late Alvis and Frances (Chapman) Bird. He married Carla Carlton in 1961 in Mexico. Robert moved to Stamford in 1961 working numerous jobs and retiring from Stamford Independent School District. He is a member of St. John’s Methodist Church, and a past member of Stamford Lions Club. He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving on the USS Kearsarge. Robert was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, fishing and riding motorcycles with the Abilene Roadriders Motorcycle Club. Coaching his son and daughter in baseball and softball was a special time for him. He loved family gatherings and spending time with his grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters Ernestine Bird Perry and Flora Jean Bird Faust; 1 brother Gerald Dean Bird. He is lovingly survived by his children Vicky and Larry Moreno of Stamford and Rob and Tami Bird of Lubbock; mother of his children and life-long friend Carla Young; grandchildren Kyli Bird and Kalen, Austin Bird and Jess, Cade Bird, Ryli McKay and Jack, Michael Moreno and Emily, and Chris Moreno and Kaycee; Great grand- children Caden, McKenlie, Aaron, Emer - son, Kaeden, Cohen, Jacklynn, and Waylon; nephew Ricky Faust and Yvonne. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Stamford VIP Meals on Wheels program.
