Edmund “Eddie” Davis Jones | November 17, 1945 - November 6, 2023

Edmund “Eddie” Davis Jones, Jr. of Stam- ford, TX passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2023, in Abilene, TX. A Cel - ebration of Life Service was held at 10 am Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Stamford, TX with Rev. Dan Stewart and Rev. Jesse Morton officiat - ing. Arrangements are under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. Eddie was born in Stamford, TX on Novem- ber 17, 1945. He was the third child of Edmund Davis Jones, Sr., and Lorene Richardson Jones. Eddie’s early years were spent in Rule, TX. The family moved to Stamford, TX where he attended high school. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1964 where Eddie proudly wore the Bulldog number 33. This number carried on throughout his life and Eddie even incorporated it into his brand. He attended college at Sul Ross State Universi- ty in Alpine, TX where he met the love of his life, DeDe Rucker. They united in marriage on May 30, 1969. Eddie grew up working as a cowboy and learning the carpentry trade of the Jones family. He continued to hone his carpentry skills while living in Carlsbad, NM. Deciding to return to his hometown, he began Bra- zos Construction in 1973. Eddie designed, built, and remodeled many beautiful homes and buildings in the Big Country area. His last, most precious, and talented vision was achieved in the home he crafted for DeDe and himself. Eddie continued to build or re- model homes up until 2021. Eddie also had a gift for teaching and shared it with students at Hamlin High School as the CAVE woodshop teacher. He said, “Everyone needed to know how to read a tape measure – it’s important in your life.” After teaching, he worked for TxDOT as an engineer in bridge construction and inspection.

Eddie was a kind, soft-spoken man who loved the Lord, his family, and friends. He served as deacon and on various com- mittees at First Bap- tist Church. He was a member of the Texas Cowboy Reunion Old Timer’s Association where he served as president for a few years. Eddie also en- joyed building unique furniture, watching his grandkids in their various activities, and serving the Lord. He found great joy in being called Grandpa, Papaw and Uncle Eddie as well as husband, dad, and friend. Eddie was preceded in death by his par- ents, Davis and Lorene Jones and brother- in-law, Jerry Jeffcoat. Eddie is survived by his wife of 54 years, DeDe Jones of the home; sons, Jim Ed Jones of Haskell, TX, Stan Terrell and wife Sheilah of Paint Creek, TX, Steve Terrell and wife Karla of Menard, TX; and daughter Jenny Winter and husband Mike of Gorman, TX. Eddie was blessed with 6 grandchildren: Jake Terrell and wife April, Shelli Hall and husband Lance, Tracer Jones and fiancé Emily Lowke, Wyatt Terrell, Lucas Winter, and Davis Winter. His 5 great grandchildren include Lawren, Easton and Reisel Hall and Colt and Macy Terrell, Eddie is also survived by sisters Davene Jeffcoat and Diane Har- well and husband Harold, brother, Ronnie Jones and wife Anne; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
