Stamford ISD Achieves High Accountability Ratings

August 15, 2022

Exactly three years ago today, Stamford ISD released a statement informing the public of accountability ratings for the district and each campus for the 2018-2019 school year. In that statement, we notified the public that Stamford Middle School received an overall rating of an “F’ and Oliver received an overall rating of a “D.” Over the past three years, all three campuses have examined data, attended professional development, implemented improvement plans and worked extremely hard in the face of so many challenges. The result of these efforts by our staff and students is truly incredible. In a time where many districts have seen dramatic learning loss due to remote instruction, Winter Storm Uri

and other challenges, our staff and students have seen tremendous academic success and growth. Through these efforts, Stamford ISD has earned an overall rating of an “A” for the 2021-2022 school year! Stamford High School has earned a “B” with Distinction Designations in English Language Arts/Reading, Science, and Social Studies. Stamford Middle School has gone from an “F” to a “B” and Oliver Elementary has improved from a “D” to a “B” while earning Distinction Designations in English Language Arts/Reading, Science and Post-Secondary Readiness. To give you an idea of the magnitude of academic success of our district, here are a few facts:

- Average for “Approaches” across all subjects for Stamford ISD o 2019 – 77%

o 2021 – 80%

o 2022 – 82%

- Overall Average “Domain 1” data

o 2019 – SISD was 3% below the Region 14 average and 4% below the State average

o 2021 – SISD was 7% above the Region 14 average and 9% above the State average

o 2022 – SISD is 6% above the Region 14 average and 5% above the State average

We are extremely proud of the academic growth at Stamford ISD over the past three years. But, we also understand that whether we are rated an A, B, C, D or F, we must look to continuously improve what we do because we are either moving forward in each area or moving backward. Even though we did well on our TEA ratings, it is also important to understand that the TEA ratings do not tell the whole story about our district and are not the only measures of student achievement. This past year, our students had historic success in extra-curricular activities that are not measured in these ratings. Stamford ISD has been, and will continue to be, an outstanding school district where excellence is the standard and the mission is to provide an environment that is conducive to learning so that each child can become a well-rounded productive member of society. We are blessed with a community that supports this school, believes in our staff and trusts us with our most valuable resource – our children. Sincerely,

Will Brewer Superintendent
